About Us

STARK is a new kind of defence technology company revolutionizing the way autonomous systems are deployed across multiple domains. We design, develop and manufacture high performance unmanned systems that are software-defined, mass-scalable, and cost effective. This provides our operators with a decisive edge in highly contested environments.

We’re focused on delivering deployable, high-performance systems—not future promises. In a time of rising threats, STARK is bolstering the technological edge of NATO Allies and their Partners to deter aggression and defend Europe—today.

Your mission

The EdgeOps Engineer is responsible for building, automating, and maintaining the full software pipeline for embedded ARM64 platforms running ROS2 and custom C++ applications.

You will be the technical bridge between software, firmware, and infrastructure, ensuring that our autonomy stack compiles, deploys, and runs efficiently across edge devices, microcontrollers, and cloud-connected systems.

Your work will directly impact the reliability and scalability of our embedded autonomy infrastructure deployed across air, land, and sea systems.

Responsibilities

Build & Compilation

  • Compile and cross-compile ROS 2 distributions and C++-based user applications for ARM64 embedded systems (Jetson, Raspberry Pi, etc.).

  • Build Linux-derivative operating systems (Ubuntu, Yocto, etc.) and their dependencies for ARM64 targets.

  • Integrate low-level software components in C, C++, and Rust, ensuring deterministic performance and compatibility with system drivers and libraries.

  • Manage build automation for multi-architecture targets (x86_64  ARM64).

CI/CD & Automation

  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitLab for embedded and cross-compiled builds within a custom VM.

  • Automate build, test, and deployment workflows across GCP (Google Cloud Platform) and on-premise edge devices.

  • Apply DevOps / DevSecOps / EdgeOps principles for secure, traceable software delivery.

  • Manage containerization and artifacts for multi-arch builds (Docker + OCI containers).

Scripting & Tooling

  • Develop and maintain build and deployment scripts in Bash and Python.

  • Optionally extend build tools and deployment frameworks using C++ where performance or system integration is required.

Systems & Networking

  • Configure and debug low-level Linux networking (interfaces, routing, DHCP, VLANs, static IPs, firewalls, VPN).

  • Optimize communication for ROS 2 DDS (uXRCE-DDS / FastDDS) over constrained networks.

  • Manage systemd services, boot configurations, and secure shell access for headless edge devices.

Hardware Integration

  • Collaborate with firmware and electronics teams to integrate and test microcontrollers, sensor boards, and autopilot hardware.

  • Support driver compilation and communication bridges between Linux and MCU-level systems (UART, CAN, SPI, I²C).

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

  • Category: Requirements

  • Core Languages: Bash, Python (C++ / Rust is a plus)

  • Operating Systems: Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, Yocto, Buildroot); Cross-compilation for ARM64

  • Frameworks & Tools: ROS 2 (colcon, ament, uXRCE-DDS), CMake, Docker, GitLab CI/CD

  • Infrastructure: GCP (Artifact Registry, Cloud Build, GCE instances), GitLab Runners

  • Embedded Hardware: NVIDIA Jetson, Raspberry Pi, or similar ARM64 SBCs; familiarity with MCU firmware integration

  • Networking: Linux Networking, DHCP, static IP setup, VPN, SSH tunnels

  • Security & Ops: DevOps, DevSecOps, and EdgeOps principles

  • Version Control: Advanced Git usage (branching, tagging, release pipelines)

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Robotics, or Embedded Systems.

  • 3–7 years of experience in embedded software integration or DevOps for ARM/Linux systems.

  • Experience deploying ROS 2-based application stacks in field or defense-tech environments.

  • Familiarity with cross-compilation toolchains (aarch64-linux-gnu-gcc) and root filesystem builds.

  • Experience with driver customisation, system-hardening, image signing, and secure boot is a plus.

Soft Skills

  • Strong ownership mindset and ability to work across hardware–software boundaries.

  • Excellent debugging and analytical skills under time-critical conditions.

  • Capable of documenting processes clearly and mentoring junior engineers.

  • Practical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in fast-moving R&D environments.

Why Join Us

You’ll work at the frontier of embedded autonomy, where every build and deployment shapes the reliability of real-world unmanned systems.

If you enjoy bridging cloud and edge, automation and embedded systems, this role offers both the technical depth and mission relevance few positions can match.
