Your mission

As the Bid and Proposals Manager you will lead and manage the development of compelling and winning bids for defence contracts. Reporting to the Director Mission Delivery, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of the bid process, ensuring compliance with the Shipley Method and implementing a robust gate review governance approach.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the full bid lifecycle, from opportunity identification through to submission and contract award.

  • Implement and maintain the Shipley Method for capture and bid management, ensuring best practices are followed.

  • Establish and embed a gate review governance approach to ensure consistent, high-quality inputs for decision-making.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, technical teams, and BD personnel to develop compelling and compliant proposals.

  • Develop and maintain a library of reusable content, templates, and proposal resources.

  • Facilitation of colour review workshops in accordance with Shipley Method, and coordinating technical and programme planning workshops.  

  • Ensure all proposals are submitted on time and within budget through a master bid planning schedule 

  • Contribute to post-bid reviews to identify areas for improvement and lessons learned. 

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, competitor activities, and government procurement regulations.

  • Cultivate a culture of creativity and innovation within the Engineering function, encouraging the team to explore novel ideas and approaches in the defence technology domain.

Qualifications
  • Proven experience in managing and winning large, complex bids, preferably in the defence sector or for government contracts.

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of the Shipley Method for capture and bid management.

  • Excellent project management, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines.

  • Proficiency in IT and corporate applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel.

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance (SC minimum, with potential for DV).


Desirable

  • Experience working in the defence sector.

  • Experience delivering large double digit £million captures and bids into government

  • Experience of copywriting and generation of graphics to support proposals.

  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., APMP).
