Flight Test Pilot

Permanent employee, Full-time · Munich

About Us
STARK is a new kind of defence technology company revolutionizing the way autonomous systems are deployed across multiple domains. We design, develop and manufacture high performance unmanned systems that are software-defined, mass-scalable, and cost effective. This provides our operators with a decisive edge in highly contested environments.

We’re focused on delivering deployable, high-performance systems—not future promises. In a time of rising threats, STARK is bolstering the technological edge of NATO Allies and their Partners to deter aggression and defend Europe—today.

About the Role

We’re seeking a highly skilled RC pilot to take the controls of our uncrewed aircraft during first flights and flight test campaigns. This is not a joystick-on-a-table drone job — we need someone with sharp manual flying instincts, capable of flying large, fast, and unpredictable fixed-wing aircraft line-of-sight with full authority and minimal margin for error.

You’ll work directly under an experienced Flight Test Lead, who will define test campaigns and mentor you in the principles of test planning, envelope expansion, and structured flight validation. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to grow beyond flying and develop toward a Flight Test Engineer or Test Conductor role in the future.

Your mission

Fly experimental aircraft manually, with precision and calm under pressure. Be the first hands on the sticks when a new airframe takes to the sky—and help shape the entire flight test process.

Responsibilities
  • Act as RC Test Pilot for fixed-wing UAS, performing maiden flights, envelope expansion flights, and regression checks.

  • Execute test cards under the supervision of the Flight Test Lead, participating in test planning and debriefs.

  • Operate as Pilot-in-Command during LOS flights, often in full-manual mode.

  • Contribute to safety checks, telemetry setup, and post-flight documentation.

  • Support integration testing and tune control systems based on observed flight behavior.

  • Learn and contribute to flight envelope characterization and future automation logic.

  • Support licensing and documentation as part of long-term test capability building in Germany.

Qualifications
  • 3+ years of manual RC flying experience (ideally with larger or custom-built aircraft).

  • Confidence flying new, untested airframes manually during first flights.

  • Familiarity with radios, telemetry, fail-safes, and aircraft systems integration. Ideally having an engineering/ systems background

  • A detail- and safety-oriented mindset with strong post-flight reporting habits.

  • Desire to learn test structure, campaign planning, and system evaluation in depth.

  • Holds or can obtain required German UAS/RC flying credentials (LBA/UAVO/§21 certifications).

  • Bonus if you’ve worked with experimental, EDF, or high-performance RC aircraft.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • You’ll be the tip of the spear on new aircraft platforms.

  • Mentorship from a Flight Test Lead to build long-term skills in structured test engineering.

  • Real engineering feedback loop—your flying informs design.

  • Pathway into more senior roles such as Flight Test Engineer or Test Director.
