Working Student Frontend Engineer (all genders)

Intern / Student, Part-time · Berlin, Munich

About Us

STARK is a new kind of defence technology company revolutionizing the way autonomous systems are deployed across multiple domains. We design, develop and manufacture high-performance unmanned systems that are software-defined, mass-scalable, and cost effective. This provides our operators with a decisive edge in highly contested environments.

We’re focused on delivering deployable, high-performance systems, not future promises. In a time of rising threats, STARK is bolstering the technological edge of NATO Allies and their Partners to deter aggression and defend Europe today.

Your mission

As a Working Student in Frontend Engineering, you will support the development of Minerva Frontline, STARK’s Mission Management Software. You’ll work closely with experienced Frontend, Backend, and UI UX engineers to help build and improve user interfaces used to plan and execute operations across STARK’s autonomous aerial, maritime, and ground-based systems.

This role is ideal for a student who wants hands-on experience building real, production-grade software in a highly technical and mission-driven environment and serious technical exposure, not just basic UI work.

Responsibilities
  • Support the development of user-facing frontend components using modern web technologies
  • Collaborate with Frontend Engineers on UI features, improvements, and refactoring tasks
  • Assist in building and maintaining reusable UI components and frontend patterns
  • Work with designers and engineers to translate requirements into usable interfaces
  • Help test, debug, and improve frontend features for performance and reliability
  • Support documentation of frontend components and development processes
  • Gain exposure to real-world mission management software, including complex data visualisation and system UIs

Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a technical degree such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • You have strong knowledge of JavaScript and hands-on experience working with TypeScript, which is an absolute must for this role.
  • You have practical exposure to a modern frontend framework, ideally React, through university projects, internships, or personal work, and a solid understanding of core software engineering principles such as component-based design, state management, and version control.
  • You are interested in building technically complex, user-facing systems rather than simple websites, and you are comfortable working in a structured, disciplined engineering environment.
  • You communicate clearly, work well in multidisciplinary teams, and are eligible to obtain the appropriate security clearance required for work in the defence sector.
  • Experience with C++ through coursework, projects, or personal development is considered a very strong advantage, especially in the context of robotics, autonomous systems, simulation, or embedded software.
