Counter UAS - Principal Robotics Engineer (all genders)

Permanent employee, Full-time · Berlin, Munich

About Us

STARK is a new kind of defence technology company revolutionizing the way autonomous systems are deployed across multiple domains. We design, develop and manufacture high-performance unmanned systems that are software-defined, mass-scalable, and cost-effective. This provides our operators with a decisive edge in highly contested environments.

We’re focused on delivering deployable, high-performance systems - not future promises. In a time of rising threats, STARK is bolstering the technological edge of NATO Allies and their Partners to deter aggression and defend Europe - today.

Your mission

Build and shape STARK´s Counter-UAS engineering capability from the ground up.

As a senior technical authority, you will define system architectures, establish engineering standards, and contribute to the long-term technical vision of Counter-UAS at STARK.

Responsibilities
  • Own and design system-level architectures for integrating a kinetic Counter-UAS capability as a subsystem within complex, mission-critical, hard real-time environments.

  • Lead the technical integration of sensors, command-and-control interfaces, real-time data pipelines, autonomy components, and supporting software into existing Skd ecosystems.

  • Define and uphold engineering standards, architectural principles, and best practices for the Counter-UAS domain within Skd.

  • Drive technical readiness for safety- and mission-critical certification by designing systems with certifiability, robustness, and operational reliability in mind.

  • Collaborate closely with systems engineers and product managers to ensure integrated solutions meet operational, performance, and mission requirements.

  • Contribute to the long-term technical vision and architectural direction of Counter-UAS at Skd while executing on near-term integration and deployment objectives.

  • Participate in building the Counter-UAS engineering team by contributing to technical hiring, peer mentoring, and setting a high technical bar.

  • Support system integration testing, validation, and occasional operational or field deployments to ensure real-world performance and reliability.

Qualifications
  • Senior-level experience (Staff or Principal) in robotics or complex systems engineering, with a strong background in integrating products into large-scale, mission-critical, real-time systems.

  • Proven ability to define and own system architectures in hard real-time, safety- or mission-critical environments.

  • Deep expertise in at least one core area (e.g. real-time systems, robotics software, autonomy, distributed systems, embedded platforms), combined with the breadth to operate as a system-level authority (T-shaped profile).

  • Hands-on experience integrating heterogeneous components such as sensors, command-and-control systems, real-time data pipelines, and autonomy software.

  • Experience designing systems to meet certification, safety, reliability, and operational assurance constraints.

  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively across systems engineering and product functions.

  • Comfortable operating as a senior individual contributor in a greenfield environment, combining technical vision with hands-on execution.

  • Willingness to engage with operational environments as needed to support integration, testing, and deployment activities.

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with military operational concepts and integration requirements.

  • Experience with certification processes and security considerations in defence software.

  • Strong technical understanding of APIs, system integration, and complex software landscapes.
